So, the good news is, this is likely to be a PB course for you! If it is your first time running BBCHM then it certainly will be a PB. If you have done it before, (we know many of you have, thank you), then this might also be a PB for you.
The not so good news is, the good canal folk have put a towpath closure in place due to a 3rd party wall collapse. The closure impacts the start and the first 700m of the course! We were not told about this but, having checked, can confirm that it is a necessary closure. We have therefore had very little time to arrange an alternative. However, we do have a solution as follows and thank you all in advance for your understanding.
Runners arrive at the start at Broad St Basin as per the race info ready for their wave start.
If you have your bib, no need to go to registration.
If you have a bag that you want taking to the start, get a bag and wrist tab from Fiona. Attach one to your bag and the other goes on your wrist. It won't be the same as your race bib but the bag & wrist tab will match each other, Pop your bag on the bag van and be ready to start in your wave.
If you do not have a bib, late entry etc. go to registration at the back left of the start area to get your number.
Once your wave is called there will be a short briefing and you will then
turn left out of the main start area gates, (please watch for any vehicles entering/leaving)
follow the ORANGE floor stickers along the path and walk to the new start, this is not part of the run
CAREFULLY cross Cornhill, the road that goes into/out of the train station heading straight on
CAREFULLY cross Union Mill St heading straight on
arrive at Horseley Fields Bridge where Dave will get you under way, it is about a 10 minute walk to here
the start mats are just under the bridge so do any watch setting, shoe lace adjusting etc, on the ramp down to the canal
if you plan to wear a top up to the start line please chose something cheap, a bin bag or a charity top which can be left with Dave at the start line and binned or donated to a charity shop
as previously, once you cross the start mats your race time starts - please do not cover your chip with your forearm when starting your watch
water is available at the start area at Broad St Basin but not at the new start line - please ensure you start sufficiently hydrated for the conditions
have a great run!
Thank you again for understanding our predicament, stay safe and enjoy your day.
